Careif Chair wins distinguished award for international research and service
Professor Rachel Tribe
Professor Rachel Tribe, the current chair of Careif, has been awarded the Fukuhara award for Advanced International Research and Service by the International Council of Psychologists.
This award was presented by Dr Sue Jacobs, the Chair of the awarding committee. The Fukuhara Award is given to a senior or mid-career level psychologist with distinguished contributions to international psychology in research and service.
‘Thrilled and honoured’
On accepting the award, Professor Tribe commented:
“I’m thrilled and honoured to have received this prize. I would like to thank all the members of the International Council of Psychologists for giving me this prize and for the amazing work they are doing in so many spheres around the world.”
In her presentation speech Dr Jacobs noted that “Professor Tribe had an outstanding record of achievement and was the most diverse of all the nominees in relation to her impact internationally.” She also mentioned that whilst many of the people considered for the award had excellent research records, Professor Tribe scored the most highly across all the criteria the committee used to assess candidates.
Dr Jacobs also stressed the international impact of Professor Tribe’s work., much which has been carried out on behalf of Careif. Additionally, she mentioned that Professor Tribe had used multiple methods of training and had taken psychology into new domains.

British Psychological Society award
In her Fukuhara award citation, it was noted that Professor Tribe’s work had reached international audiences and made an impact,. The guidance she has written for the British Psychological Society was specifically mentioned.
In 2025 Professor Tribe was also awarded the Distinguished Contribution to Professional Practice award by the British Psychological Society.
