Careif Trustee, Professor Afzal Javed, in collaboration with the University of Thessaloniki, co-organised a webinar last October that examined the intersections between climate change and mental health.

Professor Rachel Tribe, Careif Trustee, was invited and chaired a panel as part of an event organised by Veronica Franklin Gould, President of Arts for Dementia to mark World Refugee Day in June. 

Professor Rachel Tribe (Careif Trustee) and Professor Divine Charura ran a workshop on refugees, asylum seekers and mental health on behalf of Careif, for the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Professor Rachel Tribe in collaboration with Mr Philippe Muriel ran a training session on working with interpreters across cultures on behalf of Careif.

Careif recently worked in partnership with a local team in Colombo to help fill a particular gap in the mental health support offered to people in Sri Lanka. 

Professor Rachel Tribe, a Careif Trustee, was an invited speaker at the Asian CBT conference held in New Delhi earlier this year. She presented a workshop on ‘Working in mental health across language and culture’, which was very well received.

Careif is extremely pleased to announce that Professor Afzal Javed is joining the charity as our latest trustee. Professor Javed described his role at Careif as an “exciting and rewarding position for supporting mental health”.

Careif has joined over 60 organisations in supporting the Centre for Mental Health’s Manifesto for a Mentally Heathier Nation. The manifesto calls on all political parties to commit to a ten-year, cross-government plan for mental health.

Today is Time To Talk Day. It’s important to talk about mental health issues and to listen to others. The more open we are about our mental health, the better life is for everyone.

Professor Rachel Tribe, a Careif Trustee, was in Kenya recently and was delighted to run a life skills training course for residents of Rafiki Foster Care.

Professor Rachel Tribe, a trustee of Careif, recently gave a presentation at Teesside University as part of a workshop with other organisations on working with interpreters in mental health.

Careif is partnering with other organisations to offer a special free training workshop on 28 November for both psychologists and interpreters on working within the mental health field.

We are delighted that Careif was prominently featured at the recent World Psychiatric Association Congress. Our colleagues from the International Institute for Geopsychiatry presented two pioneering, and state-of-the-art, symposiums on ‘geopsychiatry’.

An online workshop was held on the topic of responding to crises and traumatic events for interns working at Samutthana, a mental health resource centre based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
