Careif Patron, Professor Dinesh Bhugra CBE, awarded the Yves Pelicier Prize
We are pleased to announce that our Patron, Professor Dinesh Bhugra, has been awarded the Yves Pelicier Prize by the World Association of Social Psychiatry.
This prestigious award has been given to him for his outstanding career in, and his lifetime contributions to social psychiatry. The Trustees of Careif congratulate Professor Bhugra on his achievements and for his continuing support to Careif and global psychiatry.
About Professor Bhugra CBE

Professor Bhugra was a Founder Trustee of Careif in 2006. He is Professor Emeritus of Mental Health and Cultural Diversity at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London. He is also an Honorary Consultant at the Maudsley Hospital, where he runs the sexual and couple therapy clinic.
His research interests are in cultural psychiatry, sexual dysfunction and service development. He has authored/co-authored over 500 scientific papers, chapters and 40 books and he sits on the editorial board of over 20 journals
In a distinguished career, Professor Bhugra has held the following positions:
President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (2008-2011)
Chair of the Mental Health Foundation (2011-2014)
President of the World Psychiatric Association (2014-2017)
President of the British Medical Association (2018-2019).
About the prize
The Yves Pelicier Prize is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding career in social psychiatry. The prize winner’s career should reflect outstanding contributions to the understanding of the important interaction of social, psychological and biological science in the cause, course and treatment of mental disorders together with a profound commitment to the human rights of the mentally ill.
