Dr Albert Persaud discusses geopsychiatry
Dr Albert Persaud, co-founder of Careif, recently took the time to speak with Aspasia Karyofylli (an Associate at Careif) about his work in the growing field of geopsychiatry.
Dr Persaud has long argued that mental health cannot be separated from the wider forces shaping our world. The concept of geopsychiatry pushes psychiatry beyond the confines of clinical practice, placing it firmly within the contexts of geopolitics, migration, climate change, and social transformation.
In our conversation, I asked Dr Albert Persaud to reflect on the origins of this approach and the real-world impact of tools like the CAPE Vulnerability Index. We also explored the challenges, the progress so far, and what the future could hold for this emerging field.
